After the success of Taigun, Volkswagen is preparing to launch the Virtus mid-size sedan. According to Autocar India, the manufacturer would unveil the Virtus globally in March 2022 and it will go on sale in India in the second half of May 2022.
The VW Virtus sedan has been on sale in many South American markets since 2018, it is due for a facelift, and that facelifted model that will make its global debut in India.

Like the Taigun Volkswagen might offer the Virtus in two trims Dynamic Line and Performance Line. The Dynamic Line would further get three variants. There would be Comfortline, Highline and Topline. The Performance Line could get two variants, GT and GT Plus.
Virtus will share a lot of things with Skoda Slavia which is due for launch later this month. So, the engines, gearboxes, some interior components, switchgear, underpinnings could be carried over from the Slavia. This will help in reducing production costs. Moreover, Virtus will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform which is already being used on the Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the Slavia. So, the wheelbase of Virtus will measure 2,651 mm.
Volkswagen will offer two turbocharged petrol engines for the Vitrus. The 1.0 TSI produces 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque whereas the 1.5 TSI produces 150 PS of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The 1.0 TSI will be offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and the 1.5 TSI would be offered with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The VW Virtus’ features list will be shared with Taigun SUV, which includes 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, connected car tech, leatherette upholstery, a sunroof, keyless entry and go, auto headlamps and wipers, a tyre-pressure monitor, LED headlamps, automatic climate control, six airbags, and much more in top-spec trim.
Once believed to be a dead segment because of SUV domination is now growing to a hot segment with back to back launch of new sedans.
