German automaker, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the new Taigo SUV Coupe in the European market. This crossover is basically the re-badged version of the VW Nivus, which is on sale in Brazil. The Volkswagen Taigo is based on the MQB AO platform that also underpins the T-Cross.
The Volkswagen Taigo looks identical to the Brazilian-spec Nivus Coupe-SUV. However, it comes with revised front fascia to keep things fresh in the market. The Taigo has different looking bumper, new LED lighting that runs across the grille, and the design is inspired by the new Taos mid-sized SUV. The SUV-Coupe’s front grille, headlamps with full LED lighting and lower bumper seems identical to the Nivus.
At the back, the Volkswagen Taigo has revised tail-lights with different internal arrangements. There is a connected bar that connects the two tail-lamps. Adding to it, the SUV-Coupe gets newly styled alloy wheels and new colour options.
The cabin of the new Volkswagen Taigo looks identical to the T-Cross and the recently updated Polo. The SUV-Coupe gets a central touchscreen with VW’s latest MIB3 infotainment system, a multi-functional steering wheel, an all-digital instrument console, etc. The company is also giving touch-sensitive climate controls as an optional. Customer can also opt for drive package, which offers features such as predictive cruise control and lane-keep assistance.
Volkswagen’s new SUV-Coupe is offered in two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol. The 1.0L engine offers two states of tunes – 95bhp and 110bhp, while the 1.5L engine churns out 147bhp of power. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG.
In terms of proportions, the VW Taigo is 4,266mm long, 1.494mm tall and 1,757mm wide, and has a wheelbase of 2,566mm. The wheelbase is similar to the six-gen Polo and the European T-Cross; however, the Taigun has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. The SUV Coupe offers a boot space of 438-litres.
