The Volkswagen Amarok W580X is probably the last-of-the-line first-generation Amarok, showing us everything VW and Australian firm Walkinshaw can do before the new 2023 Amarok, based on the new Ford Ranger, arrives in this country.
Unlike the road-focussed Amarok W580S I reviewed last year, the 2022 Amarok W580X is designed to take you further off the beaten track. A range of changes have been made, including reinforcements of the undertray, a breather kit for more peace of mind when crossing water, a more aggressive wheel and tyre package, and a range of aesthetic changes.
The Amarok W580X is powered by Volkswagen’s 3.0-litre diesel V6, which makes 190kW of power (254 hp) and 580Nm of torque. It competes with the Ford Ranger Raptor, Toyota HiLux Rugged X, Mazda BT-50 Thunder, and Nissan Navara Warrior.
